Have you ever found someone nude outside your family that you weren't expecting to see nude?

I used to go to my friend's house to play when I was young. When I was about 11, one time I went over to his house and we entered the hallway to go to his room and his mother's room was open and she was nude. She was screaming for him to close the door. It was the first time I had ever saw a woman nude before. I've never seen my Mom naked - ever.

My friend's mom was a little heavy - like 100 pounds overweight, and had huge cottage-cheese thighs. To a young person like me, I was a little grossed-out. You would think that would be the last time I saw her and that she would be more careful, but it happened again about two weeks later. I guess open doors were common in their house.

This same thing also happened with another friend's Mom up the street. We went to his house to play, went to his room to get a toy, and low and behold there's his mom. She screamed for him to close the door too: "Sam...close the d#@&ed door!!!" Why they were always screaming when they could just do it themselves I never understood at such a young age. Great fun though.

What about you - ever a moment like this?

From the summer of '84 - '86 when I was 14 to 16 years old we lived in Morocco. As is the custom in 3rd world countries, we had a maid. The entire basement of our house was her domain, it consisted of a bedroom and bathroom at one end of the house, and a large steam room at the other. A long hallway ran between the two, and about midway along that hallway were the stairs to go up. The stairs were two half-stair cases.... about eight steps, a landing with a 180 turn, then eight more steps. So from the bottom of the stairs (in her hallway) it was impossible to see the very top of the staircase.

It was not uncommon for our maid to have friends come and stay for long periods. One day, the phone rang and someone in Arabic asked for our maid. I went to the top of the stairs and shouted for her (I could hear her and her friend downstairs) but got no reply. I shouted again and got no answer. So I went half way down the stairs to the midpoint landing and shouted again. STILL no answer. I could hear them both plainly in the steam room and was bit frustrated that they could not hear me. I was shouting rather loudly by now. I heard the door to the steam room open and all of a sudden a thought occurred to me... they might be naked.

Before I could react, our maid walked down the hallway wearing nothing but a pair of flip-flops on her feet. I remember thinking, "Huh. She's totally shaved. I didn't think a Muslim woman would do that." That thought flashed through my mind in about 1/1,000,000,000 of a second, and in the next instant I was really wishing with all the power of the universe that I was not standing right there at that moment. Then out of the corner of her eye she saw me and began to scream and try to cover up all her vital parts with her hands... arms whipping about wildly, and in the process she slipped and fell in a most ungraceful manner.

Half of my instinct told me to go help her up. The other half told me to get the holy hell out of there. As I was standing there trance like trying to figure out which half to obey, the friend came into view half wrapped in a robe. She gave me a look that could kill and screamed something in Arabic which I am sure I am grateful I did not understand. I got the message and ran up the stairs.

I have no memory of what happened to her phone call, but when I saw her again a while later I apologized with as much humility as I could muster. She looked sheepish and told me it was ok. Gratefully, it never came up again.

That's the only incident I can think of when I saw someone outside my family.

I had several incidents as a missionary in Germany in the mid-60's. Tracking (every missionary's least favorite task) was always interesting because you never knew in what state of dress/undress the person opening the door would be. Riding our bikes through some of the parks was also interesting during the summer. Of course, we made it a point to make sure we traveled on the routes that took us through those parks!
I even had the opportunity to teach a large part of a discussion to a young man (clothed) and his naked girlfriend. She came out of the bedroom as we were talking to him. She was certainly not upset about the situation! We offered to come back at a more convenient time, but they both insisted that we continue the discussion. I have to admit that as a normal 20 year old, I really can't remember a single thing that was said during that discussion.

Ok, wow. If I tap into my mission in France there are endless stories of seeing naked people, but I don't think there was ever a time when the naked or semi naked people wished to not be seen. At least, that's what I would assume if someone is at a beach or in a park sans clothing. Like usher, public parks were always a sure bet to see nudity... but it was often the kind that wanted to make one loose his lunch. (I won't give details.)

Geesh...you're lucky something like that didn't happen now. Terrorists would probably come after you. BTW, I take it she was Muslim; what are their beliefs if a man (boy) sees an unmarried woman naked? Anyone know? Also, was her normal mode of dress always to be covered to her ankles. I don't know much about Muslim ways in these sorts of things.

This is almost "not family", and was unexpected.

As a teenager, I had always checked in with my folks after coming home late, by sticking my head in their bedroom door and saying "I'm home!"

My mother had died shortly before my mission. When I returned home, I had a pretty, new step mother. Out of habit I "checked in" after a date, only to see my step mom standing across the bed, facing me, stark naked. She let out a little gasp/scream and jumped under the covers. My dad woke up and I could hear muffled conversation between them as I bolted down the hall.

Nothing was ever said about it and needless to say I realized that at 22 yrs old I really didn't have to check in any more.

This was unexpected in a sort of different way. When I was about 7, my mom needed to go to girls camp with the MIA girls, but had no one to leave me & my little brother with. Since we were so young (And so well behaved!) an exception was made to let us boys go to camp with her.

One morning while the girls were off on a hike, my mom and the Bishop's wife went to use the vacant showers and they took my brother & me. To my surprize it was a big open shower and we all got naked and showered together. I was totally shocked to see the bishop's wife naked. I was not expecting that. I still remember it vividly. I remember initially being mortified that she could see ME, & was flaberghasted that the whole thing was all OK with my mother.

I remember the two ladies talking and laughing and enjoying the shower. It was not a quick shower. It ended up being a good experience.

Funny thing is.....45 years later, in a city 800 miles from our home town, that bishop & his wife again live in the same town we do. They are in their eighties, and every time I see them together at a concert or public event, I smile inside and think to myself, "I showered naked with that woman."

Moral of the story: Be careful who you get naked with. It's a small world.

I am sorry but I just had to laugh at that. I could see you standing around at a Stake conference or something, turn to the person next to you and say while pointing at the woman in her eighties, "I showered naked with that woman." Even now I am laughing.

Kudos to them for having a good attitude towards nudity. I suspect that such an incident could not even start to take place today.

And they may have planted the seed that got you started growing into a naturist. I'm sorry your mom is gone. I'd like to congratulate her for being so sensible.

Naturally,

On my mission we were out tracting and it was almost noon and time to go home for lunch. We decided to hit the last few houses on the street. On of which was a trailer. Knocked on the door and my companion started to talk and I glanced at the girl, early 20's, and noticed she was attractive. Then the thought crossed my mind that she didn't have a bra on under that tee shirt so I took another glance to see if my assumption was true. Right as I glanced up again she raised her elbow and leaned against the door jam. I was able to determine right then that she was a natural blonde. Here we were standing on the ground and she is up two feet above us standing in doorway of the trailer, so it didn't take much movement of her tee shirt to give us that view. She was friendly and kept talking for a little while. It sure was hard to try and keep eye contact with her. Come to think of it I think she was probably a naturist because she had a very nice tan and no tan lines. Needless to say, but that kind of ruined us for the rest of the day. We gave up on the last few homes and went home for lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get our missionary composure back. I would have a very different conversation with her now and it sure wouldn't have the same impact on me.

My comp and I tracted into a young lady who answered the door with her jeans un-zipped all the way down and spread open in a way that looked very intentional (not like she just forgot to zip after business). She invited us in but I suddenly remembered something we had to do. It was hard to look at her face, not because I felt compelled to concentrate on her crotch, but because she was probably the ugliest girl I've ever seen.

Oh yeah, we also tracted into an older woman - 50's or so who invited us in despite the fact that she was wearing a nightgown. After we were all seated in the room it became apparent that her nightgown was so thin and transparent that she may as well have been naked. In another area we walked by a home where the skinny 30's something woman was plying with kids in a kiddy pool in the front yard. She was in a not quite covering string bikini that was not only tiny but very wet and loose. Cant think of any more of those kind of mission experiences - and not an attractive one in the bunch.

Funny how there are many things lurking in our memories that just need a little bump to remember. Mission experiences are one example. Since these memories are now older than I was at the time they occurred, it took a pretty good wallop to get the dust off.

First, tracting experiences. In the very rural areas of Japan old people followed the old ways. One of these was if it was hot you took your shirt off. It was not unusual to see Grandma types “cooling off” in the summer or answering the door without a shirt. Always these were people over (sometime waayy over) 60.

Second, public baths or sento. Missionaries were discouraged from using the public baths. But it was also known that the sento would periodically get new display curtains for the entrance doors and missionaries could sometimes get the old ones as a souvenir. One time while asking about this we were at the attendant area. This one was different from others in that while it was men to the right and ladies to the left beyond the attendant, there was no wall or partition dividing the change room from the lobby. You could see about half of each change room from the attendant’s station. What doubly struck me that time was the attendant was an early twenties female who did not hide the fact that the stool she was sitting on was angled toward the men’s side. I remember thinking there would have been no way I could have changed there.

Third, kind of related, you be the judge. In some of the more remote places the public restrooms tended to the fairly primitive. Anyone else remember the pissing walls with the trough along the base? Once we were at this type of facility which also had windows at about the four foot mark. Being summer the windows were open. As we were relieving ourselves a group of high school girls came along and in typical fashion had to talk to the Americans. I remember being very flustered trying to complete the business.

At another similar restroom there was an old grandma type that was cleaning. There it was not uncommon for this to happen and you just didn’t worry about the cleaning crew. What was different this time was that again while at the pissing wall, this cleaning lady walks up right next to us, leans forward and takes a good look, then walks back to her co-worker saying, “Of course, I told you they were built the same.” I don’t think she knew we spoke Japanese because she seemed somewhat embarrassed when we commented on the weather as we exited.

A bit OT, but hadaka's story reminded me of a time when we had one of the famous Kents come talk to us once (don't remember which one, but those who served in Japan will understand),

He told a similar story about a cleaning woman coming up to him and asking for his autograph while he was doing his business. His reply was something like "te ga hanasanai yo ni" (basically the equivalent of my hands are busy right now", thought it was very funny the way he told it.
