Has anybody in the forum been treated for Prostate Cancer? I was just diagnosed with it and would appreciate some feedback from the members.

Been,
Sorry for the bad news. I suppose treatment depends on how far it is advanced. One guy in my ward had his prostate removed last year and is very happy he does not have to worry about it anymore. He has not mentioned to me any sexual debilitation as a result of the removal but then we are not that close. All I know is that he believes it was the right choice for him. My dad has prostate cancer but is not treating it. Five years ago the docs gave him 5 years to live. He is now 93 and going strong.

B.A.--you are not alone in this. Many of the guys on this forum have heard the exact same words from our doctor. I had surgery 4.5 years ago at age 58.
If you would like my thoughts, please go to the MEMBER tab and send me an email. If you are in SLC, maybe we could get some of us together to talk & support you through this.

From the medial point of view it depends on what type and how aggressive it is. Statistics show that the average male diagnosed with prostate cancer will die of something else before the cancer gets him, typically heart disease. It is a choice you have to weigh carefully as the surgery can make you sexually unable and incontinent. I am sorry to hear you have this problem, good luck and may God bless.
